Where shame is rolled away

Our Gilgal houses provide case-managed transitional housing for survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence, and those in recovery. We have two safe houses (Linden & Hilltop) renovated and furnished by the community and need more. There are no transitional homes for trans women over 24 and limited housing for pregnant women in recovery. With Columbus City Council’s support in 2026, we’re building a duplex for 2 pregnant moms to raise their baby and receive wraparound services.

From our homes, women learn self-love and forgiveness, gain confidence, and find family through peer support and our Love Warriors. An anonymous donor bought and renovated our first house; partners and Lowe’s (major appliances) and Diahann, a school nurse (washer) contributed. We urgently need two more houses—one on the East side and one on the South. If you can donate a house, each will be named and numbered Gilgal. Contact us to help.

“Thank you for giving me a home to live in while I got my life back together. Had you not been there I would have been homeless.”

— Street Sister and Gilgal Resident

How Gilgal works

Joshua 5:9 | The Lord said to Joshua "Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you." So, the place has been called Gilgal.

First, Gilgal was a boot camp for the Jews after crossing the Jordan and leaving the Egyptian slavery. For the sisters, it is a place they learn life skills and apply them to become productive and self-sufficient.

Secondly, it was a place of new beginnings. No longer fed by God they had to earn their living. The sisters work, pay rent, and are self-sustainable positive role models.

Thirdly, Gilgal was a sacred place where shame & guilt was replaced by the grace and favor of God. The sisters receive healing in their hearts, mind, spirit, and body.

This is Gilgal

We provide holistic case management and peer support for survivors of domestic violence, trafficking, and addiction. A Registered Nurse manages medications; residents have random drug tests. Prohibited on-site: alcohol, methadone, suboxone, gabapentin, benzodiazepines, vaping, cannabis, and non‑approved drugs. Only Vivitrol and approved maintenance meds allowed. Case managers coordinate with partners. Residents work, pay $525/month rent (+ $250 deposit), and share utilities. For details call 614-928-3006.

Gilgal coordinators teach Street Sisters healthy relationship skills while others fundraise and collect essentials. One month after 1DL2H acquired Gilgal #1, a local Girl Scout troop’s fundraising helped furnish the house.

Gilgal House #1 is lovely, peaceful, and secure and donated by an awesome man. Gilgal #2 was won through a bid on September 5, 2017, and now it is actively restoring lives and rebuilding dreams on the Hilltop.

Gilgal #3 will be a safe duplex for pregnant survivors of trafficking and addiction. We rebuild lives through love. Companies wishing to donate supplies, or anyone wanting to help open Gilgal #3, please contact us. Join our Love Tribe and support justice to end trafficking, addiction, poverty, and illiteracy.
