Harm Reduction Saves Lives…

The people we serve—women, children, men, and transgender individuals—are socially isolated and trapped in sex slavery, often through kidnapping, grooming, or early sexual abuse. Many use drugs to numb pain and hopelessness. On Columbus streets and alleys we operate two red commercial vans called the “LOVE BUG,” providing nonperishable food, first aid, clothing, shoes, condoms, transport to hospitals and recovery sites, and Narcan distribution when funds allow (Narcan costs $40/box). Many fear white vans and other commercial vehicles because they were assaulted in them. With human trafficking victims rising over the past four years and limited after-hours resources, we need two more LOVE BUGs and three Drop-In Centers to cover the city’s remaining hot corners. We thank the County Commissioners for CARES Act funds that helped us purchase and modify a red Nissan NV200 to continue our rescue work and deliver tangible care across the city.
